Biography

I am currently working as postdoctoral research assistant in Informatics Research Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am currently working on 3D image reconstruction of colons and crypts in functional tissue unit.

In 2015, I have recently received my PhD from the Manchester Metropolitan University in which my project was based on developing novel computer aided methods for automatic detection of symptoms associated with one of the most common cause of blindness i.e. glaucoma; in a retinal image. The computer aided methods include development of novel algorithms of 1) retinal area detector for detecting true retinal area in a retinal image, 2) automatic detection and segmentation of glaucoma associated anatomical structures and 3) automatic detection of geometric and non-geometric based symptoms associated with glaucoma. This project has been funded by Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC-UK) and Optos, plc (Nikon). I have presented my research work in multiple international conferences, involved in organizing workshops, gained valuable teaching experience as well as mentored the undergraduate projects. I have been selected as a finalist in UK ICT pioneer competition 2015 for the most exceptional thesis.

Alongwith my PhD I have also been involved in development of image segmentation and classification models for classification between healthy and diseased wheat leaves as well as determination  of severity level of the disease. The project, in collaboration of Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera-UK) is aimed to develop a mobile application for the prototype. Before my PhD, I attained my M.S. from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA where I completed my thesis on task-based approach to parametric imaging with Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI. I received my B.Engg in Electronic Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan where I have worked on plethora of projects including voice controlled automation system.

Working in different types of projects in collaboration with industry has gained me valuable experience in image processing, computer vision and machine learning; especially in industrial setting. The research experience I have gained in different types of projects can be applied in any of the relevant field.
